Coloring books were developed as an idea to help aid the interest in a children's series at Metrograph. The series, titled "Playtime" ran for several months, with that several coloring books were created. I chose films from the series that were recognizable and created line drawings of them. While most spreads served as coloring pages, other pages featured various puzzles to solve.
Activity books were available for purchase at Metrograph's concession stand. Later on in the series the books became zines and were handed out for free during various showings.
Elements were borrowed from the Playtime poster in order to create a uniform look.
Metrograph members were treated to free frozen deserts upstairs in their commissary. The cards themselves are printed on super heavy stock with an embossed front and back.
The zine style activity book was a more cost effective way of advertising. Folding the paper into fourths would give a front, back, inside spread, and a full size drawing. These would be printed in larger amounts and handed out to children during the Playtime showings.
